Enroute to posting pics of my favorite sunrise morning of 2018, photographically speaking :) I decided I needed to upload a new painting of mine.
It combines abstraction with touches of representation and is rendered 99% with palette knives.
This developing style reaches all the way back to my second earliest work (in my late teens/early 20s, ie 1960s-70s) of surrealistic semi-abstract copies of artists I liked done with brushes, combined with more abstracted palette knife work I began the 80s with :)
New to this effort is the addition of the use of ground Marble dust in varying densities to generate a thicker more tactile paint.
Bird Watching Sailboat in Paradise also merges elements of images from both Costa Rica and Vermont!

James, what an extraordinary apt description of how I felt creating this painting - thank you! It’s been a pleasure returning more frequently to how I began painting in earnest in the 80s via a palette knife. Though I love brush work, there’s an undeniable energy via use of a palette knife :)
