One of several paintings completed late 2018 but I’d held onto before posting to see what if anything I might want to add to it.
Lucky Breeze was a lucky painting that grew in one sitting, until it was time to add my current preference, a recognizable object, such as a person or bird or boat or even moon. I’d wanted to add a bicycle to one of my abstracts and felt there was one tiny spot I could add it to without compromising the overall work.
The bicycle and rider themselves came out pretty nice, but never fit in on various levels - the size of the insert, and the contrast or lack of contrast of portions of the overall bicyclist and bike against the backdrop. I worked at solving those problems until it finally became obvious I would have to choose between the overall painting or the bicyclist and bicycle insert - I chose the former.
I removed the new paint, which was still wet, and regained my original work underneath (which had dried well before), and inserted my trusty sailboat (smiles).
This painting is very similar to my recently posted painting (same size, colors, and palette work), “Birds and Sailboat in Paradise.” That work is more serene, while “Lucky Breeze” is more kinetic. In the former work, the sea and sky are more settled and at ease. Here, the air and water are nearly wanting to change places, lol!
I love them both, and very much enjoy expressing the various nuances we all find ourselves living :)

Thanks so much, Marta! I do love playing with the paint strokes :) Most of this work is via palette knife, but I varied the texture & density of the paint both w/medium and marble dust, so it does have a strong sense of brush work too; thanks again! :)
