My Self Portrait images range from Vermont to Paris to Vermont to Texas :) In this case, my wife and I had stopped at a small municipal park enroute via a back road to the Trapp Family Lodge near Stowe Vermont. Fall leaves were trying to fill with bright colors and a few had begun to cover the ground.

My initial impulse was simply to capture a few fall colors, but then I spotted my shadow filling the frame! Composing my image I shifted slightly eventually framing an a brightly lit area of ground around my silhouette. My wife still says it looks like a real person (vs a shadow) in the photo :)

Interestingly is when I applied even the mildest clarity or sharpening touches, that sense of this being a real shadow-person so to speak, vanished, and it clearly became a shadow on hard ground covered with a smattering of leaves.

I like this original straight from the camera shot (iPhone 5 no less!) best :)
