Maybe because I've painted on and off since my early 20s (am now a young senior - smiles), and despite also loving capturing and presenting a nearly untouched photograph, I sometimes really enjoy just taking a photo and play with the lighting, texture, even the composition. That's what this series, "Evening Walk Along Lake Champlain" is about.
In both the larger originating version and in the two smaller detail renditions, I applied several types of 'art' filters. I would filter one over the other, do cmd-shift F (via my Mac) and either fade the effect in or out, sometimes using the history tool to adjust something here and there, also apply the Fade option then. I dodged and burned. I saturated and unsatured - adjusting the strength with the Fade tool, opacity, and fill. I cloned and faded and unfaded those effects. I chose to use a clone mistake in one spot because I liked it, and adjusted the clone tool's brush size and hardness. I hand drew a line, erased the ends, and history-tooled how much to fade back in. I added light where there was shadow and shadows where there was light. I played with countless effects I undid with cmd-Z. I had fun (smiles).
Unfortunately, these creative efforts are almost impossible to write down and replicate on another image. Which is just as well, each work is its own thing, with its own feeling and effect, even if similar.
"Evening Walk Along Lake Champlain," like my preceding series "Sunrise Over Malletts Bay," was a scene I immersed myself in the last few days my wife and I were in Vermont this year. Our wonderful Airbnb host Shouyan's home was a brief walk or bike ride from the lake at Leddy Park, and it was a real pleasure to have so much of nature so easily available. Much like the man and his dog in the picture I'd assume.
I hope you enjoy these variations and hope you'll tell your friends about these or other images in my galleries. Thank you so much for stopping by.
